Significance of Festivals

Festivals occupy an important and significant place in the social and cultural life of nations and serve as pathfinders to merry making or just like an Oasis in the desert of prosaic life. The festivals also bequeath a feeling of oweness to community and the nation. The celebrations become full of enjoyment when an atmosphere is created due to mass celebration where children and youngsters are in the finest of their attire and in a mood to forget past enemity/unhappy event. Festivals necessarily lead to exchange of gifts/sweets and the intermingling of the community which is a prelude to the oweness of mankind.

India is a land of unity in diversity.Owing to its great diversity of religious/beliefs and the varied cultural traditions of the different states, festivals in India--like festivals in any part of the worls--find expression for the people's zest for living, delight in the nature and love of pageantry. The Indian calendar is one long procession of festivals and these are as varied in origin as they are large in calculation.
